jeep ball joint laying in my driveway!

snap.
2 miles after i got off the freeway as i turned into my driveway and my liberty looks like it is on 3 wheels.
has anyone had this happen to them yet? i called about the recall and they said wait for the notice to come in the mail. i think jeep owes me a rental, and being that i own qty:2, 2004 libertys. i am a little leary of my wife driving hers on the freeway back and forth to work now.

all my service centers are closed so the next chapter starts wed at 7am.

let me know what resistance i am up for and what i should expect.

also when i put the vin in on jeeps site it shows no recall information?
i read somewhere that the recall only affected automatics. is that true? if so i guess my situation is rare?
thanks guys!

You're thinking of two different recalls.

There was one that affected V6 Liberties with the automatic (park wouldn't engage if the engine was running).

This recall affects all Liberties.

This has happened to alot of people. They will repair all the damage but they may not offer to cover a rental. If they deny you the rental go the manager and if it's a good dealer you will get one.

There is alot of information on this topic at www.lostkjs.com

Good luck , let us know how it works out.

thanks

i will let you guys know the outcome in the am.
My wife is a little leary of driving hers tomorrow. i just told her to think of all the money we will have if something happens while she is on the freeway.
i am hoping they will just take both and take care of me considering the situation.

does anyone know if this is a permanent fix or do they just replace again with the same components?
thanks
justin

Might be better off asking the dealer that one.

My guess is they'll put the same components on, and when you get the recall notification you'll take it back for the permanent fix.

Im hoping they will not use the same balljoints. If they do, another recall with be in-store.

Everyone needs to be checking their balljoints! This is a very good example of what happens if you dont.

I don't think Jeep will give you much trouble over the LBJ's. DC knows they have a major safety problem. The LBJ recall hasn't shown up on the Jeep website yet. I had both my lower LBJ's done in June (14K miles). My Service Manager says they will have to do them again because the new LBJ's are from a different manufacturer. He also mentioned that the new parts are available but in tight supply. Don't forget to report your failure to the NHTSA website.

Have you had the front ends of either Jeep checked lately? Excessive play is not difficult to spot. Mine got done during a service visit for a software update. I had mentioned some light noises and the tech didn't like the slop in the front end while on his test drive. Got it back and they were done.

Hi Justin,
A few questions of interest..
* Was it a lower or upper ball joint?
* Does it look like the ball socket separated leaving a round ball end on the control arm or spindle, -or- did the stud shear in half?

No worries. If your contact info is up to date, you will be getting a notice for the recall. It is on the jeep site now. How many miles on it?

Wife and I were driving in our 2005 Libby Sunday morning, when we rounded a corner on the road and there, right out in the open air, in front of God 'n' ever'body, half on the road half on the berm, lay a case of ball joint failure, left front wheel sorta hangin' at a funny angle.

But it was on a Chevy Blazer of mid-90's vintage.

So the problem is not strictly limited to Jeeps. Might be the Blazer was an aberation, whereas the Jeep isn't, still . . . .

.........................or, could be that the 10 year old Blazer, with 150,000 miles, simply wore out the old ball joint.

Blazers are known to have bad balljoints. Its has now been said that the recall is indeed up on the jeep.com website.
