Instrument cluster lamp replacement

Just bought my Jeep a few weeks ago.

Got my haynes manual, looks pretty basic. I'm surprised there are a couple out on an 02, I've had many vehicles far older not have this problem. Jeep must have got a good deal on some cheap lamps for these rigs.

Any advise for me? Any and all appreciated!!

It is very easy to replace the lamps...there are 9 small incandescent lamps plugged in the back of the cluster...available from the Dealers.

Some people have replaced the lamps with LEDs of various colors...you would have to try a search for this option on the various Jeep forums.

I have not had to replace any lamps yet on my 2002....probably depends on how much driving you do at night...I do not do much these days.

I can wait to do it it's long day season now, so I don't notice. It will bug me in the winter months if I don't replace them. I'm just concerned about knocking something loose, or possible damaging the trim pieces in the process. I will be very very careful. Just can't bring myself to pay my mechanic over $100.00 to buck to do it for me, too embarrasing.

Ok, so I did this over the weekend, one cautionary note, my suggestion is buy lamps from the dealer. The ones I obtained from an aftermarket auto store retailer was the incorrect type. Hence, I am now very proficient at instrument cluster removal/installation. ;)
