Actually there pretty cheap compared to most newer engines.

05 sport with 98k and outside of normal wear and tear, had the serpentine belt idler pulley bearing seize up and shred the belt at around 75k. That's the only time she's ever broke on me.

I'd really love to see one, rebuilds are well over 2k and used ones are like 1800+ for engines with really high mileage. If you can link to one that is any cheaper than that, I'd love to see it for future reference.

'03 Limited - 136k

Other than new shocks/springs all the way around, new A/C compressor, and other wear items... everything's been fine. *knock on wood*

I have 117,000 on my '02 Liberty Sport. Pretty much maintenance stuff - brakes, belts and hoses and recently my AC compressor went belly up so that cost a few C's too It's been paid for a couple of years now and I hope to get a few more out of it too. Love having no payments. I've been happy to own mine.

2005 Limited
97,xxx and counting
Brakes done at 80

Only problem I've had so far was a CEL for a gas cap at 70k. $5 later Good to go!

Oh and a battery but that happened the day I bought it and was fixed on the spot.

I can build a 3.7 with all brand new OEM parts for about $3000,might be about $3500 now with the part price increases that have been going on lately. And yes that would be 100% new parts for the long block and heads.

I had a 2004 Sport.

Went through several coils.
Had to replace the shaft between the key tumbler and the ignition switch in the steering column.
Battery left me stranded.
Front axle leaked on the pass side end seal and the pinion seal.
Rear axle howled between 50 - 60 mph
Replaced the breaks all the way around @80K
Needed a clutch
Kept going through tail lights
Replaced the ball joints (under warranty)
At the last oil change, the oil looked like mayo -- yep, water in the oil.

I could go on and on. Suffice to say, I had a few more issues than folks list here.

So, at ~103k I traded her in.
