The NHTSA's claims were so bogus to begin with - good riddance to this recall. Thanks for posting this, Troy

I got my letter on Thursday. I got the mail after you guessed it, putting on a hitch. Kind of the way things have been going for me as of late. My letter also said they didn't have the parts. I needed the hitch for this weekend so I would have put one on anyway. Besides a bolt hole above the tailpipe it was a very easy job. The key is to run a tap up through the holes to get all the mud salt and sand out of there.

Was it an OEM hitch you installed?

So it's a better hitch than they'd provide, be happy and not upset your spent $$$ on one...

Got the recall letter today too... seems like it doesn't really matter to me as I have the off road package for my 06 liberty renegade, which has a steel plate surrounding the gas tank. but if my dealer wants to install it anyway they could feel free to install the trailer hitch to improve safety

Keep the jeep wave alive no matter what jeep you drive. Don't hate, one day a fellow jeeper might help you out a **** hole.

I got the letter recently as well. It looks like Chrysler will reimburse you for the hitch as long as it is approved by the dealership service department.
