I am looking for a hitch for my wife's 2006 liberty, class lll 5,000 lbs. What would be a good hitch to buy and where. Thank you for any info.

I have read that reese/hidden hitch/draw-tite are good brands (all owned by the same company). And they are available at multiple online retailers.

You can also get hitches at your local U-HAUL spot.

I'm not sure about after market hitches but my Liberty came with a towing package and I have yet to find a ball that will allow me to hook a trailer up without removing the spare tire. It may just be a problem with my Jeep but you may look into that before you get one.

Best prices, even after shipping.
This is what you *should* get, there are cheaper options, but HH is the way to roll

Draw-tite #75128 version is tucked up to the frame the most but still has the receiver out far enough to get out under the tire.

This is one time I'll go against T-bird...but only because I have preferences that go back in time before Cequent purchased Hidden HItch, Draw-tite, and Reese.

In a related question, what about wiring? I'd like to install a 7-way over a 4-way. I don't see any listed for the Liberty on etrailers.com. Any ideas?

Thanks!

EDIT: Here is a link to the Mopar wiring harness for either a 4-way or 7-way.

I also called my dealer, and at least for my '04, they think I need the cooling fan for towing more then 2,000 pounds, however I need to check my manual to make sure.

My Liberty is an '05 and I'm not to sure on the differences but I know that I haul a boat without a problem. And it is a 17' aluminum bass boat. And I don't know the exact weight but I have never overheated or even attempted to get hot and I would say it ways quite a bit.

i believe the towing package has an additional cooling radiator for the transmission. that would be about the only thing i would see necessary for towing, depending on the weight and what kind of terrain.

The Draw-tite receiver tube sticks out and gets rid of the spare tire problem.

hitch

I have a class III Hidden Hitch, and though the trailer tounge is a little close to the spare tire, I haven't had a problem. The installation was very easy.

Liberties with the towing package have a lighting harness that supplies power to the trailer lights through a separate circuit with a relay. I don't have that, and I'm doing fine. I just used an adapter harness that went in behind one of the rear lights on the Jeep. My trailer is just a small utility trailer with some tail lights -- no big draw on the car's lighting circuit.
