Ground Clearance on a Stock KJ

How much ground clearance do you think the average stock KJ has. Mine is a 2005 so I figure the springs have sagged some so it has less than it did when new.

Depends on how much yours has sagged
if you have skid plates and what brand they are
what size tires you have on
etc
all of the above makes a difference, best bet is to take a tape measure and crawl under yours

If your running stock sized tires it's the same from '02-'13(KJ and KK) since the lowest point is the center of the rear diff.Only tire size effects that measurement. No amount of sagging will effect ground clearance when your lowest point is the solid diff.

OK, I did not realize the rear diff was the low point.

... and the only way you'll ever change it is with bigger tires .. even then, unless your Troy , it's negligible.

A Subaru Forester has 8.7 inches of ground clearance. I am thinking that is more than my KJ has so it should be able to handle the beach as well as my KJ.

That all depends on how stuck you want to get.

I do not want to get stuck that is why I am trying to figure out if a forester has enough clearance. 8.7 inches is pretty good for a stock vehicle, more I suspect than my KJ has.

I suspect that 8.7" clearance is is for the complete body not just for a few points on the structure and that would mean there is going to be a lot more drag on the vehicle if you do get to the clearance limit.
The low points on the jeep are on certain spots and would give you a lot less drag at the limit.....Better mileage vs better towing..... Choices, choices.....

As I am sure has been discussed many times on this forum, even a stock XJ can do amazing things with skillful driving and a spotter.

Don't let being stock keep you from having fun on the trails!

My jeep is pretty stock and I have done some pretty technical four wheeling. Just gotta go slow and have as spotter. And be willing to move some rocks.
