fuel filter change
Okay, who has changed the fuel filter. Does it take a crow bar, or just a
big hammer? ![]()

Should need just a few wrenches, don't for get to prime the fuel system after replacing the filter and DO NOT pre fill the filter install it empty, pump the primer about 10x and try to start it if it does not start in ten seconds, pump the primer another 10x. Cranking the engine over 10 seconds willl damage the CP3 high pressure pump, it's a good pump just not tolerent of no fuel volume due to the very close tolerences in it.

The CRD fuel filter is next to the brake booster. Gas KJ it's in the tank.

The bleeder valve next to the filter is for draining the water out of the water seperator, lossen the bleeder then open the drain valve.
Have the bleeder closed when you are priming the fuel system with the hand pump mounted to the filter housing. |

The gassers fuel filter should be changed every 100,000 miles but nobody does replace it. It is mounted on the bottom of the fuel pump module.
DCXman I used 75W140 in my 00 Rams front and rear diffs and my 03 Ram uses 75W90 syn in the front and 75W140 in the rear, anything with a tow package or used to tow anything should have 75W140 in the rear. |

The one on the fuel pump is likely the most frequently changed. Unfortunately, the one in the tank is probably the most needed to be changed (if ever) because it is the first line of defense.

Sorry for the slight bash on the Chiltons manual but there info is not always right. The only KJ's with an external filter is the 2.8L CRD. |
