Exhaust leaks after mini cat

Okay,

So I bought a mint condition KJ with a knocking engine.
New engine, LOTS of labour making it compatible (it's out of a 2005 Dodge Dakota), and the exhaust is now loud.

The mini cats were pretty frozen in place upon taking them apart. Now, after the mini cat there is a joint with 2 spring bolts and it's leaking pretty good. There isn't much resistance on the spring bolts and I feel like maybe there should be some sort of a seal in there? Apart there were a few spots that looks like some wire mesh was stuck to them, but there was nothing in there when they got removed.

After all this hard work, it sounds like I'm driving a beater. I'm not the most experience when it comes to exhaust systems, so maybe someone can shine some light here.

Thanks

What year is your KJ? My 02 has gaskets at the inlet of the rear and the outlets of the fronts. Check out the exhaust section for your year at Rockauto.com:

I've got an aftermarket exhaust from the flange with the spring bolts back but think the pipes just mate.
