It's the doodad with the headlight switches and turn signal and wiper controls

It's RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU Between the steering wheel and the dash, ya know? Has two little thingies poking out of it? one on each side?

Disregard that. I found it.
Here's the rub. I had no idea that was a switched light. I thought it was a driving light that was to come on with the ignition.
The reason I never turned it on is because of the "half on then pull out" function to work it.
Cripes...I've been driving it for two years and didn't know that.
Awe well.
Thanks for the help.

HOLY CRIPES... ok...so I read to clean the turbo sensor behind the fuel pressure sensor. It was totally easy and my milage jumped from 22mpg back up to 27.2 on a city 30 mile round trip doing errands.
I should have known that because I would clean the O2 sensor on my Cadillac and the performance and mpg would jump back up.
Now, I'm wondering what other sensor I can clean.?!?

Was that the MAP sensor you cleaned ? Back of the motor under the wiring harness? Good to hear that your MPG's are back up to snuff.

Have you eliminated the EGR yet? That helps with MPG's also and makes our VM motors much happier. That can be done with what is refered to as the "SEGR" mod or a GDE tune does it also and has many other great bennie's. That and taking care of the crankcase venting that shoves oil into our turbo hoses (causing premature failure), intercooler, and intake (gunks them up bad) is also a good thing to address with either a "EHM" mod or Provent 200 (there are DIY Provents too).

Well, that all sounds great but I don't have time or know how to do all that stuff. I would walk through some of the easier things to do if someone was close by.

If you construed it as yelling, ThunderbirdJunkie pities your automatic negative connotation for everything.

Sorry, but after explaining it, and then you asked the location, thought you required it to be dumbed down.

Won't make the same mistake in the future

Yea, I guess it was the map sensor.
I would like to clean some of the emission control crap off but my experiences in the past have taught me that it will cause problems with the computers and forever trouble codes and warning lights. ie. 82 Camero, 86 Cadillac, 95 Suburban. No problems with my 75 Jimmy but that was pre-computer.

Diesels are dirt enough without intentionally recirculating the exhaust (of all things) back into it.

But if I'm going to have trouble lights haunting me I'll try cleaning out hoses and parts like the egr itself.

Honestly, the manufacturers and the dealers should automatically tell people and perform cleaning the MAP sensor and pumping the air out of the fuel filter every 20k automatically. I'm wondering what else I can do.!?

Well, the GDE tune disables the EGR via programming - sooo no futzing with with removal of the said evil device, and no CEL's and no issues. That way you will not have to look forward to the EGR replacement due to total or partial failure every 30 to 50K miles or so. It also increases fuel economy by a few MPG's and adds quite a few foot pounds of torque, recalibrates the fuel gauge, and the temp gauge too I believe - to make them more accurate than factory settings. Adds better coasting ability and pedal feel to the little deisel too.

That tune has been one of the best single additions for the CRD's I've seen so far. Those guys really know what thier doing. Really glad I did that upgrade first thing. FWIW Provent is second on the list, an intank pusher lift pump is number 3.

Dealers techs for the most part (not all but close) - are totally functioning blind when it come to these CRD's. All they know is to follow a scripted troubleshooting list, which most often leeds to multiple componant replacements (or no problem found / could not duplicate).

Even with the EGR taken care of - you still will have to clean the MAP once in a while.

With a little patience and forum reading - you will get a pretty good handle on what should or can be done to make these little buggers more enjoyable.

Have a good one.

Ok, Yall...here's the story on the oil light coming on at revs over 1,500 when cold.
88,000 miles and it was the sensor.
Easy to replace. It's on the back side where the oil filter screws on and you have to take to skid plate off to get to it. The skid plate it's very simple with 4 bolts and a short 3/8" extension.
The dealer had a sensor in stock for $65 bucks (I could have bought it cheaper on eBay.)
I love this damn Jeep.
I read a post by a european bragging about how "BULLET PROOF" these VM Mitori engines are and they drive them all over their continent for decades. Their only complaint it the government mandated crap on the exterior.
Now... I know... that an oil sensor in not government mandated but 88,000 miles ain't bad.
I have a set of tires that are rated for 60,000 miles and I remember back in the 60's when we couldn't make the whole damn car go 60,000 miles...lol...

How did the oil pump go bad?
The way I saw the diagram it is "a" gear on the front main crank shaft.

does your gauge fail to rise during start-up but not all the time? That's what mine is starting to do

First post - welcome aboard JF

The OP was having probs with a diesel 2.8 VM motor, is your TJ doing this also ? Wranglers also have had issues with oil pressure sensors. How many miles on your 03?

EDIT: I see your TJ is a 4 cyl - was refering to the 4.0 inline six - may still apply but not sure.
