Crd in Kenya is useless - engine swap?

Hi all, my cousin has a 2.8 crd auto liberty in Kenya he has had nothing but problems with the engine due to the fuel quality.

Is there a non-common rail engine that will fit? Maybe the Cherokees 2.5 engine? Any others?

Will the transmission need to be changed too? I have been reading that the tranny is electronic and speaks to the engine.

In Kenya the diesel can be dirty, can be thinned with kerosine, water, urine, basically whatever they can find, hehe

Any information will be greatly appreciated.
