Code History

Another newbie question...bare with me as I become a CRD guru. LOL!

I used the "Key trick" to check codes on my CRD. I got a code 299, which turns out to be a low turbo boost/mechanical failure code.

I am not getting a check engine light, and the truck runs great. I actually broke the tires loose pulling into traffic today, so I know the turbo is working.

I just bought the vehicle 2 days ago, so it is possible the issue has been corrected, but the code was not cleared? How can I find the warranty repair history?

You can go back to the dealer and ask them to check the VIN against any work that has been done. That should answer your questions.

I bought the car from Carmax. I pulled a Carfax report, and the vehicle is from New Hampshire. It was a "fleet" vehicle until 4100 miles, then sold. The second owner kept it until 9600 miles and sold it. It went to auction (never a good sign), and wound up in Nashville, TN. How, I don't know? I'd love to know more history on this Jeep.

It runs great, I hope I didn't get a lemon and the thing falls apart on me.

Get on the phone to ANY dealer service dept and they should be able to help you. I once bought a Ranger from a dealer in Alaska, and the Carmax said it came from Nashville. It was a low mileage fleet truck. Nashville must be a major hub for auctions. That Ranger was a darn good truck. Fleets don't keep vehicles for very long, and no telling why the 2nd owner had it for a short time. Could have been repo'ed. Ask the dealer to tell you what all has been done to it.

Ah! A repo! Didn't think of that.

The think looks brand new. Not a scratch on it. It hasn't been abused that I can tell.

I'm in love with it. Once the warranty is out (next August), I think I might tinker with it some. Maybe even see if I can tap into the biodiesel culture around here and find a co-op. I've read about people making biodiesel for around .13 a gallon. WOW!

Of course, I'll research anything I try to death to make sure I'm not harming anything.

Go to a local dealer and become friends with them(it will help later) and ask them nicely if they could run a VIP report for you. Some may not because it may contain the previous owners information. But they could transfer everything into your name.
