Bumper Lights / Bumper Holes
Here's one for all you with bumper-mounted lights, and for whoever's seen them mounted on a Liberty:
My huge box of lights (2-Driving, 2-Fog) just arrived from Susquehanna Motor Sports. I want to mount the Hella FF-1000's (similar to Hella 500's) on the front bumper of my '04 Liberty Sport, centered above the end-edges of the front license bracket. I've read that the inner metal core of the Liberty bumper is a square-section tube of sheet steel, covered with a layer of styrofoam-like padding, then covered with the outer plastic bumper. If this is true, even removing the bumper to do the lights install won't help, since the steel-"tube" construction won't allow access for a nut to anchor the light's down-bolt. >> Is this description true? The mounting base of the FF1000 Helllas allows for molly-screws (in place of the usual through-bolts), specifically for installation on no-underside-access bumpers. So that part sounds OK, so far. . . I've also "heard" (in forums) that it's possible to your mounting holes too far forward, and too far back, on the bumper. Test holes are a possibility -- but I don't really want to end up with a honeycomb-drilled bumper, trying to find the right "punch through" spot. (I mean, really -- how many little acorn-head "decorative" chromed screws can I put in those "oops!" holes, before somebody realizes what a klutz I am ?? <G>) So EXACTLY where have you light-pioneers mounted your bumper-mount Liberty lights ? How far from the front edge/back edge/ends did you drill for the mounting bolt(s) ?? (... and yeah, I might have to just go with a brush guard or bull bar -- but the bare bumper looks like it could be a "clean" looking install . . . )

personal pref?
the WAAG frontrunner looks GOOD on libbys. ![]() Did you get 2 pairs of FF1000's? I'm afraid to ask how much you paid dave or dale or whatever his name is. If it was more then $110 shipped, i'm sorry i wasnt able to get to you sooner. He sells most hella stuff at MSRP. Theres two ebay sellers that sell at a much deeper discounts, one of which i buy from all the time. Also, my friend bought from him, and Hella wouldnt honor the warrenty, and he wouldnt take back a defective part. Next time,

yeah. the libertys equipped with tow hooks retain them. They were stupid when they designed the cherokee one, because it uses the same holes as factory hooks, so its one of the other for us.
The only thing is, do your tow hooks open to the inside or the outside. If its to the outside, you might have issues getting a thick tow strap on. Waag is good quality, and good design. And their front runners usually are the same price or cheaper then any good frame mounted brush guard. And more functional, because unless you're a crazy desert driver like me, and run into sharp tall yucca plants on a regular basis, you realistically want more bumper protection then grille protection. This will keep your bumper from getting damaged in minor fender benders. In fact, my insurance agent said on a minor fender bender, he'd rather pay out to replace a $200 bumper guard, then a $1000-$2000 bumper. As for light mounting, some offer tabs, some dont, but its easy to get tabs welded on.
