Am I stuck paying Mopar's sticker price on a warranty extension?
Hi folks,
Our 2006 CRD just rolled past 25k miles, well on its way to the 36k cap (and well before the 3 years is up). We received the following in the mail: http://bbs.planetb.net/~chrispy/2006crd_warranty.jpg Check out those prices! $3600 for 7yr/100k coverage under the nicer warranty. Good Lord in heaven... I know that with other brands (like BMW and Toyota), the price for extending the factory warranty varies from dealer to dealer. There are some dealers on the Internet which sell significantly discounted dealer warranty extensions, and make profit on volume. My question is, are there any Jeep dealers which offer similar discount dealers on factory warranty extensions? For a $24k vehicle, the quoted prices in the letter above are pretty laughable. - Chris

Looks like 7year 100k Max Care is $2940 with 0 deductable. 7year 70K $1990. They are just a chrysler dealer on the east coast. I was a touch worried that is was not real but investigated and is laget as I have taken CRD in a few times and it shows up in thier Computer. Also with the Max care you get day 1 rental car so even if you take it in for something that is going to take 15 min to fix you get rental for the day free. Comes in real handy for all the recalls we have been getting. Also seems to me you go to the web site fill out info and they will email you a promotion code that knocks even more off. So don't sign all the way on first visit.

Unless you have a catastrophic failure, my hunch would be to bank the 3k in a special account and use it for repairs. You may not need any of it.

I figured a egr valve and any other small thing would just about cover it. Let alone if they had not recalled the T/C would have gone way over.. LPR

Thanks LONEPINERON! I found another site:
http://chryslerservicecontracts.com/ and they seem to have even better prices. Very cool stuff. I'm still about 10k miles away from needing to purchase it, but now I feel a lot better knowing there are reasonable options available. I've always found that a "car guy" can usually at least break even on the longer extended warranties, because they know when there are problems that the average person might not detect. For shorter warranties, chances are nothing will break that will help you recoup the cost. On my M3, I had a seat heating element and a power steering rack covered that paid for the warranty and then some. - Chris

Also try your local dealership - they get a cut of the $$$. Tell them that you are interested and that they should match/beat the price (if they value you as a customer.)
When i bought my jeep i turned it down ($2000) - {employee price - Family plan discount). When i blew my motor at 3K (forgot to properly attach heater hose when manufactured) - I got mine for $1000.00 - 50% off the employee price ($2000) - Told them that if thy did not offer me something for my troubles, I was posting a sign on it as a lemon and parking it on the street infromt of the dealer. So they have room to work it. Treat it as if buying a new car, make them earn your $$$.

Not all dealerships even sell DCX service contracts, where I work we only sell Hendrick Autoguard contracts, just as good as a Chrysler contract(coverage wise) but the problem is you have to call for approval for everything and not all dealerships will accept it.

Update:
The best online price I found for a 7yr/100k Maximum Care (top level) warranty for our 2006 CRD was $2080 from http://chryslerservicecontracts.com/ with a $100 deductible. I printed this quote out and went into my local dealer. Not only did they match it, but they took $300 off to help with the state sales tax. I got out the door for $1886. Given the reliability of this CRD so far, I'm sure I'll be saving money in the long run. ![]() If anyone is interested in purchasing a warranty through my local dealer, please PM me. They are a small mom-and-pop dealership run by an older couple. I can check with them if there is any interest. - Chris

I use my Geico Mechanical Breakdown coverage. $250 deductible. It is a bumper to bumper type warranty. I pay the first $250 on a big item, and they give the shop a Geico credit card number. I have used it once on our Buick and it is great. No hassle about used parts and what not. Strickly new OEM replacement parts and it is done at my dealer or wherever else I might like the work done. All for $6 a month. Cheap at half the price.
