My wife and I have been thinking about getting a newer vehicle. My wife came across a Liberty 2007 with 135k. It is the sport 4x4 with the 3.7L. How reliable are these? Assuming that the jeep was maintained properly, what repairs could I be looking at in the next 10K miles? The dealer is asking 7500.00. That seems a little high considering the mileage.
4750 seems like a great deal. I am testing out a 2002 with 117k right now. I'm going to have it looked at tomorrow. It drives good, engine runs well, has some rust starting in the rear doors. I know that the front end needs a little work. The dealer is asking 6900. Depending on how it checks out, maybe I can get it down closer to 6k.
Got the report on the 2002 back from the mechanic.
Hood shocks: 125
Front Brakes: 275
L Front axle seal leaking: 150
Steering rack leaking: 865
coolant and trans fluid dirty, needs tune up.
I called the dealer, and he said, "what if I came down 2k?"
Not sure what to do. There are conflicting reports as to the reliability of the 3.7L engine. The mechanic pulled up the wholesale list of 3.7l engines, there were a lot of them, and they were going for top dollar. Does this mean that the engine is prone to failure, and lots of people need one? Or, that its a great engine, and everyone is asking top dollar?
