Yesterday (3/3/17), I purchased a 2006 Liberty Limited, knowing full well there are electrical issues. I did as much research and testing as I could prior to posting this. I want to post what's going on, what I've checked, and what I've researched. I really think that the issues are all tied into a failing BCM, but would like some feedback if it's a good possibility, if I missed something, or if I'm completely off base.
I would like to point out that the Keyless entry works just fine. Both remotes lock & unlock the doors, and open the glass tailgate. The lock/unlock button on the drivers door also work, no problem
Research
I hooked in my code scanner and pulled all codes. I then looked up each code using JeepForum (of course!), obd-codes.com, troublecodes.net, autocodes.com, and a quick search of Google, completely avoiding fixya.com, as the information on there just doesn't seem reliable.
Checked all fuses, replacing the ones that were blown (more on that in a bit), disconnecting and inspecting the four connectors on the PCM, looking for corrosion, burn marks, loose wires, or damaged wires.
Issues & Findings
The Liberty starts right up every time. It will run, idle, I can drive around and it will shift, but feels (and after reading up), seems to be in LIMP mode.
All of the fuses in the underhood Power Distribution were good, none blown.
Interior Fuse panel, I found Fuse 13 (Body Control Module/CMTC/Cluster) was blown, and I replaced it. It hasn't blown since.
The codes that were pulled were:
P0882 (TCM Power Input Signal Low)
P0846 (2-4 /2C Pressure)
P0871 (OD Pressure)
P0700 (Transaxle Control System Malfunction)
P0731 (Gear Ratio Error 1st Gear)
P0755 (2/4 Solenoid Circuit)
I thought that maybe everything listed below P0882 were maybe tied together. If the TCM has a power input code, maybe it would cause some of the other ones.
I'm also getting:
U0002 (CAN C Bus Off Performance)
U1100 (Lost Vehicle Speed Message)
U1411 (Implausable Fuel Volume Signal)
The fuel pump has never been replaced, has never had a remote starter or aftermarket security system installed, never had the radio / audio system replaced, and I remember reading about a code being caused by something with a part in the steering system being replaced, I just can't remember what it's called, but that has never been done on this jeep, either.
Electrical Issues
I've attached pictures as a reference, I hope the file names carry over, as it has some description of what you're looking at.
When the running lights (no fog lamps) are turned on, the Brake warning light comes on, and the left/right turn indicators will slowly light up, but very very dim. Outside, the running lights in front are on but dim, on the rear, the running tail lights and turn signal bulbs are lit, but dim as well.
When turning the either the fog lamps on, or the headlights with our without the fog lamps, the turn signal indicators on the cluster go extremely bright. I can hear a relay under the dash click when I turn on / off the headlights, and turn on / off the fog lamps.
If I have the heater fan on before I turn the running lights / headlights on, the fan works normally. But, once any lights are turned on, the fan immediately shuts off.
Same goes with the radio. If the radio is on, the heater fan won't start.
Power windows do work, but go extremely slow, almost like they aren't getting enough voltage.
Wipers do work, but again, very very slowly.
Also, when the truck is turned off, key out of the ignition, no lights on the dash & dome-light off, if I turn the headlights on, the heater fan will turn on. If I press the hazard lights, the fan will go on and off with the clicking of the relay.
And I'm done rambling
With all of that said, is it safe to assume that the BCM is the main culprit of these issues? I can accept if it doesn't fully account for the transmission related codes, but I can't troubleshoot that issue fully until the other electrical issues are somewhat cleared up.
I'm open to any feedback you can offer.
Thanks!
