2003 Liberty Speedometer and Odometer Dead

Hello everyone. I am new to this forum, trying to do some research before I send my liberty to the shop. Last night, as I came to a slow speed to turn into a parking space my liberty stalled. I restarted with no problem and pulled in. A few hours later as I was leaving to go home my check engine light came on, my speedomoter wasn't working and neither was my odometer. Still the same today...dead speedometer and odometer.

Any ideas what I should look for before I put it into the hands of a shop who will run diagnotics and charge me like crazy to only assume the problem? Any info greatly appreciated!!

2003 Jeep Liberty, 112,400 miles.
