Yes, it is a KJ. The 02-07 MY are KJ.....08+ are KK. Congrats to him. The Renne's are pretty capable jeeps.
Did he just get it? Have him get a build sheet and it will show all options when it left the factory. The Renne's usually (but not always) have the off-road lights on top. It will have the off road package which includes skids, hooks, and trac-loc, a couple of other things I can't recall at the moment.

Id leave the skids on there they will offer protection whether off-road or not. there is always debris on the road and I like my Jeep to be protected. you can lift it and gain some good ground clearance.

I'm wondering that myself. And as far as clearance from the axle on a KJ is a somewhat big task. Your going to have to lift it, to fig bigger tires, then of course, get bigger tires. The most that is recommended on the KJ is a 32" tire, a 33" would be almost impossible. You will need to do some trimming to get it to fit of course. With a big tire your going to find a loss in MPG, and a in performance, so many people re-gear the diffs to a 4.10, this brings back the MPG and performance. Its not absolutely necessary, I'm gonna run lifted with 32s for at least a year to save for lockers and gears.
