2003 3.7 in a 2002?
Hi Jeepsters! I have a 2002 Liberty Limited with a bad engine. I would like to know what range of engine model years would be easiest (besides the 2002) to install in my vehicle. I know of a local lowmileage 2003 engine and would prefer to not be changing mounts, computers, pulleys and the like. This Liberty was ran prolly 50K without an oil change and really got sludged up and ran low oil pressure until it chewed up the upper valve train on both heads. I pulled several golf ball sized chunks of oil chunks from under the valve covers!
Thanks! Bill in Fort Worth.

Any 3.7L will work but for the easiest I think one from an '02-04 KJ would be your best bet.

Welp....after calling on an ad for a 2004 motor that the 2004 motor's flywheel will not bolt up to a 2002 torque convertor. I read that the 2002 is a 45RFE trans and the 2003-and on is a 45RLE. He mentioned being able to get one bolt on and all the rest of the bolts were not aligning at all. I wonder if the flexplate (flywheel) from the 2002 will bolt up to the 2003 or later engine. Jeeze...I miss the old days when a GM 350 motor would fit in just about anything....even my lawnmower
