2002 Liberty major problems

My mom's liberty is now sitting at the mechanics.

While driving the other day, it started stalling at every stop. Now it runs horribly and has a p0301 code. The shop changed all plugs and wires and changed the oil. They say it might be the timing chain?

3.7 V6 with auto.

Any help appreciated.

According to the shop, it has two cylinders blown. Time to start car shopping.

When you say "two cylinders blown" what does that mean? Did you ask the shop how they define 'blown cylinder'?

Could be that there is a dropped valve seat in two cylinders. If they're on the same bank they can pull the head on that side, repair the seat, and reinstall the head. Even if there is a bad seat on each head you're still cheaper repairing it vs buying a new or used car. Besides, you tell a buyer you have "two cylinders blown" you ain't gettin' nothin' for it on trade or sale anyways.

Ask a few questions of the mechanic and post the answers here. You'll get some straight answers that will help make a wise decision.

What are you going to do with it if you don't repair it?
You're not far from my home place maybe interested in it if you are not going to repair it

But if it was me I'd repair and keep on running it

I don't know, it's my mom's car and that's the info she gave me. Her and my stepdad are discussing what to do.

I know the mechanic said one of the plugs is soaked, so its not even trying to spark. They said it needs a rebuild, replace, or just get a new car. I'll see if I can get more info out of them though, then update you guys. Thanks for the help.

I grew up in Ohio about an hour from Wheeling
so down that way all of the time
Been looking for a project KJ to build since mines got 166,000 and I like to have two of everything, actually have a set of heads in the garage waiting
Trading in with an engine like that its not worth much so just throwing it out there.

Well, I got home from work, parents were both nowhere to be found. Just got a phone call, they took it to a dealership and traded it in on a 2010 Dodge Caliper. I guess they gave her 4 grand for it.

Probably because it only had a bad ignition coil or something.

Even if the engine was perfect, there were so many other problems, she needed to replace it.
