2002 liberty 3.7 knocking

hey wassup everyone. im looking at a 2002 liberty with 108k on the 3.7 engine. it has a knock noise that sounds like it coming from the top end of the engine towards the passenger side. is there anything that you guys think it may be? hopefully its not the rod bearings. not looking forward to replacing the engine thanks

The 3.7L is a quiet running motor unless there is something wrong.

I'm buying one with the same mileage and problem. apprently there is a sludge problem with these motors that causes this issue along with other issues. The end result is buying a new or used motor. Just do a google search for this motor and you will see that many people with this motor, whether in a jeep or in a dodge pickup truck, have had this problem. I read on one website you can try to put injector cleaner in as well as some sort of hard core engine flush to see if it helps te problem but usually not. From what I understand the best thing to do with these motors is change the oil with synthetic every 3000 miles and be very religious about it.
