2002 Jeep Liberty Ltd top speed?

We have a 2002 Jeep Liberty Ltd with the 3.7L V6 4 speed automatic transmission. It's 210 HP so in city driving it's got some nice get up and go when needed. The highway is another story. When I have the gas pedal floored, it seems to be struggling to go 120 km/h. I realize it's a 4000 lb vehicle but shouldn't it be faster than that? Even 150 km/h would be nice. I've seen on other sites where it's top speed is around 185 km/h. I can't seem to get it to go past 120 km/h.

Anyone else notice this behaviour?

120 is about 75mph. That is a little odd, you should be able to go faster then that, although why you would want to go 100+mph (165km/h) is beyond me.

It's about principal. I don't plan on going over 165 km/h but I usually drive around 120-140. The truck should be able to do that easily.

How fast are others able to go?

Dear turtle,

Time for a tune-up? Air & fuel filter, spark plugs, plug wires, dirty injectors, low fuel pump pressure, things like that. I have had mine up to 105 mph. and it was still climbing.

Could those things also contribute to poor gas mileage? I filled up the 70 litre tank and went only about 260 km. That's way worse than any other vehicle we've ever owned (Taurus @400+ km and and Escort @500+km (it was like a car, only smaller, hehe)).

Pull in the anchor

Yes, things like will cause poor fuel economy, even low tire pressure will do it to. You should be getting around(hope my math is right) 70 liters = right at 18.5 us. gallon and lets say we get 16 mpg = right at 25 Kilometers . So 296 miles or 475 Kilometers on a tank would be in the ball park. You are only getting around 9 mpg =14 Kilometers Are you sure it is not locked in 4 wheel drive or your not dragging something, like a house?

There has to be something wrong with your libby. My -02 3.7 goes easily over 165km/h.

I'm taking her in tomorrow to the shop to have a look at it. Hopefully it's just a small tune up or filter replacement issue.

I heart my Libertah.

I did a search on the topic of a Liberty's top speed and it returned practically all the pages, so I thought I'd start one. It eventually seguied into mileage.

I routinely cruise at 130-140km/h with ease, and the feeling is that there is a lot more room the Liberty's legs. Is O/D on? With that low mileage, it definately sounds like a tune up is in order>

O/D is always on when I'm on the highway. I turn it off in the city. I only have 4WD on when I'm getting out of my driveway and down the street due to the snow buildup to the main road (about 300-400 ft. distance) as I've suddenly gotten a little 'lazy with da shuvlin' because, as I tell my wife, "the Jeep can take it". HEHE
