My daughter drove about five miles, parked and went into shop. She came out and backed out of the parking lot and the jeep shut off. There were no lights or warnings and no overheating or messages on dash. It started once and stalled, and then made a grinding noise. It was towed to dealer which it has had many hours of diagnosis until Jeep Chrysler Warranty said the extensive engine damage was caused by an unwarranted part. We bought the car at 64k with Chrysler extended warranty 5 yr/100k. Blown head gaskets, cylinder gasket and #2 piston or $7,000 in damage which is more than the book value on the car.
The jeep has had numerous electrical issues in the past, leaking water, and PCM was not replaced as it was an intermittent problem with car shutting off from water leaks. The leaking radiator and thermostat and gaskets replaced back in March 2012 and no problems until this episode on July 1st. Can some one explain how this could happen? Do I have to to pay an independent Chrysler mechanic to explain how this damage could occur. The first thing that had to be replaced was the battery that was dead with a faulty wire. Then it was the rocker arms which it didn't fix and now Chrysler says the uncovered part is what caused the damage so they claim nothing is covered.
