I put 42K on an 02 with no drive line problems. No issues except tires, stock Goodyears bite the big one, too soft and way too much sidewall flex. Replaced them at 36K with Goodrich AT/KO's and it transformed the KJ back into a Jeep with real Jeep feel. Make sure the ball joint recall is done, and the other safety recalls, and you should be good to go. We miss it, kinda, but the Rubi that replaced it, is one of the best Jeeps, out of 6, we've ever had.

I have an 02 liberty. I haven't had much problems with it. Nothing to big to hand. I had a leak in the rear differiental and the right axe fluid was leaking. But other than that, she has run just fine. About a year ago, I had a problem with the rear windsheild wiper not working but that was fixed. It's been a great to me.

The '02's have the better transmission, also..
They put in a 'weaker' tranny in '03 or '04.. Only 3 minor recalls for the '02 1 was for a wire that could delay the air bag.. 1 was for the lower ball joints.. and 1 was for the knee blocker below the steering wheel, which might come loose while driving.. Not bad for a first year vehicle..

In the summer on the highway (2wd) I get 550-625 km (340-390 miles) per tank at 26-34 mpg depending on the wind. In the city I get 400 km (250 miles) per tank at 18 mpg in 2wd. In winter I use part-time 4wd and I get 15 mpg in the city and 20-24 mpg on the highway. I have replaced the air filter with a K&N replacement filter and I only use synthetic oil. Hope that helps... |
