06 Jeep Liberty CRD Please help

Hey guys sorry to be such a rookie at this, I just picked up a Liberty CRD and its due for an Oil Change. i was wondering what would be the best Type of oil to us in the 2.8l turbo diesel engine. my friends that have cummins say rotela T 15w40 but i have also seen Ow40. so i figured why not ask an owner what they use. Also looking at in the future putting a lift of some kind and recommandation would be awesome. looking at the best quality for the least amount of money but hey arent we all. thanks for your time

Zeke

You can buy Rotella 5w40 synthetic at Wal-Mart which is what many of us use.

Welcome aboard JF

The most recommended by CRD'ers seems to be Mobil 1 - Turbo Diesel Truck 5-40 and also as mentioned by dcxman the Rotella T (don't go 15-40). Both are full synth.

Some of us also use the M1-301 larger filter for our little tractors.

Few things to think about,

Getting the EGR delt with (ie. extinguished). An SEGR or a tune from Green Diesel Engineering will take care of that pesky issue and a whole lot more.

Doing a mod to eliminate the oil that gets vented from our crankcase into our hoses, intercooler, and intake. There is either what is called "the elephant hose mod" (can leave oil on your drive/garage floor), or doing something like a Provent filter or a home made version of it.

Lift wise - the Frankenlift for the CRD is well respected.

Some of the Smallmart stores have them fairly reasonable (but not mine of coarse), my local O'Riely's (sp) does stock them all the time - but for more dough of coarse.

Thanks. As of yet I am not married to any filter.

You MUST use synthetic oil first off. I use Amsoil European Car Formula (designed for European diesel engines which is what you have in that KJ) and an Amsoil Ea034 oil filter. That oil filter is advanced technology and there is nothing else on the market like it. If you use this set up you can safely go 5000 miles between changes. Go to the Amsoil website and join as a preferred customer. It's 20.00 a year. The minute you do that youll be able to buy from the website at a considerable discount. That's what I do for all my diesels: (2005 CRD, 2001 VW TDI, 1987 Toyota HZJ60 Land Cruiser, 1987 Suzuki Long Wheelbase Samurai diesel)

95 Badboy has given some very good advice.

Or shoot me a PM & I will get you a great deal on Amsoil as well.

By the way the M1 Turbo truck diesel oil is not a MB spec oil, if I remember what I read a while back. I'm sure that somebody will tell me if I am wrong!

I second Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel Truck, it's got good availability and is not too expensive. It comes highly recommended from those who have done oil studies on it at TDI Club. I just did an oil change this past Saturday and put that oil in (took it to the dealer the last time), and it seems to run a tad bit smoother and has more acceleration. You can also use Mobil Delvac 1 5W-40, although that is harder to find, they are both very similar.

I saw the m1-301 at Autozone for $12. It seemed a lot wider than the original, and the gaskets didn't line up. Was I looking at the right thing?

Should be, Mobil 1 - 301 mounted right up on the 05 without issue - gaskets sealed up without a single drip. Does look really wierd the first time because of the overall size difference though. Don't think there is any differance between 05 & 06 on the filter mounting surface either.
