05 Liberty wont start with key

I bought my '05 Liberty used from a dealer in February '09. The Jeep has a remote start system which still works. Trouble is, the key stopped working. The first year I owned it everything worked fine. Then I noticed that there were a few times that I had to use the remote start because the key wouldn't turn the engine over. The problem got worse until it happens every time now. Also, it might be important to note that inserting the key and turning it does turn on auxiliary power stuff (radio, AC), just not the engine. And yes, I am turning the key far enough:) I'm guessing some wire got loose, but I don't know if this is within my ability to fix. Anybody else experience this?

Part of the auto start is causing the issue most likely, the bypass module or the autostart itself.

Hi, I also wonder if it might be the starter actuator pin issue - there are several posts you can review to see if your symptoms are familiar. Good luck

This^^^^Lots of posts about the ignition actuator assembly failing.

Remove the plastic covers from the steering column ...two male Torx bits and then remove the ignition switch from the tumbler...smaller male Torx bit, security type with a hole drilled inside it!

You should now see the ignition switch and the actuator pin that turns the switch will have the end broken off.

You can start the Jeep by inserting a small screwdriver in the switch and turning it.

Dealers do not have the actuator assembly...you can buy it at several places.

95BadBoy also has some good advice.;)

I'm aware of this issue as it has happened to me!

The replacement is Dorman - I bought through Amazon and there's a good video on YouTube titled "Ignition Switch Actuator Pin Repair Installation Video" (not sure if allowed to post links but it's only to help!)

Dealer told me they DO NOT sell the part just the steering column in its entirety and as I've seen posted elsewhere will offer you the whole column for a mere 900+
