04 Liberty Transmission question

My wife's 04 liberty sport has the 42RLE automatic transmission, and I need to replace the lockup solenoid. I have the new part as well as other things I need for the job (fluid, filter kit, etc.) and I was curious if there was more to the job than just replacing the solenoid.

what I mean is, if I replace the solenoid, will the transmission throw codes? will the car be driveable? at the moment, even though the transmission is not working properly, there are no codes. anyone done this repair before?

at the moment, the transmission unlocks if you drop below 50 mph, like a low key version of the movie SPEED. On acceleration, it operates and shifts normally, locking at just below 40 mph, then surging until I get to 45, unlocking and revving high until I get past 50, then locking up again normally. definitely a nuisance, as it's wasting a lot of gas and all the roads where I live are 40-45.

I'd like to just swap the part out, but I don't want to make the car un-driveable. My wife isn't confident with the manual transmission in my wrangler (we're working on it.) If anyone out there has done this repair, let me know how it went!
