02 Liberty Shift Points
I have an 02 Liberty Sport with a 3.7L and selec-trac 4WD. I hadn't really notice the shift points in relation to RPM's until I pulled a trailer this last spring down to OH and back. Now I notice it all the time.
Why did Chrysler choose to lock the torque converter up at 60 mph? Secondly, is there anything that can be done to have it lock at 60 mph but then not unlock until 55 mph? I know the stuff about torque, HP, "sweet spot" on the engine power curve, etc but it's really bugging me. Around here almost all the roads are state and county highways with speed limits of 55 MPH so going over 60MPH brings the added risk of getting tailed by a big red flashing light. Yet, this means that my TC is unlocked in high gear almost all the time. My Cherokee locks up around 50 MPH and stays locked down to 45 MPH. True the I6 has more low end torque than the V6 3.7L so I understand Chrysler's choice but I'm the old farm boy who is willing to scarifice speed if it keeps the TC locked up while climbing a hill. Any ideas or comments would be appreciated.
