HA! something cheaper locally? Not where I'm from. ever... and 2 stupid questions. I googled them, but nothing jumped off the screen, and I figure you guys would know better anyways...
1) Is Alabama part of the rust belt? (I'm guessing no because we don't have snow)

2) Is there some type of rust prevention chemical or compound that actually works?

is it just me or does quadratec really rip you off for shipping?

you think you are getting a good deal, but then end up paying more for shipping. for example when i bought my winch i think i paid the 90 dolars, so the 299 winch, became something like 489.

that is a sales strategy that many online retailers use. they 'hook' you with a low cost (or lowest) for an item then add addt'l S&H or surcharge fees, in order to make more. it's very common for companies that are in a dealer network and are drop shipping the item from a warehouse someplace else. welcome to e-commerce. just remember the old saying....if it's to good to be true, then......

On the rollers they will rust after using it a few times. Just surface rust.

seems like you made up your mind. imo smittybilt is just fine (i own one, it's been in a head on, half of it didn't work for a year and i resoldered the wires and it fired right up) and both will rust over time, the key to getting as little rust as possible is to wash your jeep at least every other week and wax it once in awhile. although im sure nil to few actually know this.

90 + 299 = 389 not 489

Keeping any winch clean would be the best way to protect it. Keeping the cable, rollers or anything that could rust with a light coat of oil on it will help greatly. These are cheaper winches but with some attention you can keep rust away or at least to a minimum.

My buddy has the rugged ridge and I have the XRC, I think they pretty much the same winch, the motors are the same spec, possibly even the same, solenoid box is the same, controller is the same, fairlead is identical, they are both a ***** to free-spool.
I would't be surprised if they are the same winch.
