I installed a Warn M8000 winch on my 2013 JK a few weeks back and I've been having a battery drain problem ever since. It got to the point where my battery would be completely dead if left overnight. I have off-road lights and an air compressor installed, but figured those shouldn't be the problem since they both operate on switches. Only my winch is directly connected to my battery. After removing the connections for my winch, my battery has been working fine again. Is there a reason why my winch is draining my battery when it is not in use? My coworker recommended that I use a Knife-Blade disconnect for my winch to prevent battery drain.
When you disconnected the cable to the winch, did you do it at the battery or the winch? If you disconnected at the battery, possibly you might have a bad spot in the insulation allowing a short-to-ground.
I think I figured it out. It turns out I wired the contractor ground to a positive terminal on the winch, causing a leak. I rewired it so it is correctly connected to the winch ground and I seem to be okay so far. Thanks for the help guys!
