Who is running air compressors?
Just curious how many of you run on-board air and how you set it up/where you mounted the tanks? Pics would be SWEET! Any recommendations on what tank to run? At the moment I'm looking to be able to re-inflate my tires when I get off the trail with it.
Thanks, Josh ![]()

I have the ARB. It works fine for airing up and down your tires. It takes 5-7 min per tire. My tires 39.5x15x15's air from 6 lbs to 18lbs in about 7 miniutes per tire. I never have to let to cool down either, but I always check to fitting to see how hot it gets.
I looked for pictures and didn't find any good pic's of the ARB, but if you look at the top of this pic you can see where the ARB air is mounted. ![]() I hope it helps. By the way.. If you get the air compressor. you are can use it for you lockers later.

I use the Puma air compressor.
![]() I separated the compressor from the tank and mounted it on the ABS tray sorta/kinda. ![]() The tank is under the Jeep. ![]() Works very well. Bob

I run a sanden for my lockers, tools, and to air up tires. Only takes a few minutes to air up all 4 35's from 8 to 25psi since I use a quadraflate type thing that I built. My bumper is my tank. you can see my compressor as well as my tank.

Dumb question, why use your bumper as a tank? I ask as there are some inherent problems. Without coating the inside ~ it will rust and rust will flake, passing rust particles/flakes throughout your system. Potential Problem. Airtanks are pressure tested, meaning they will take alot before blowing apart like a hand grenade. A bumper would not be. Same token the same bumper takes a hit (tree, other jeep) another potential problem. It works for you, awesome, just curious thats all. I hope you dont have these problems... Sorry just curious.. Look into the MF-1050. A couple of months ago there were many available on ebay, now there doesn't seem to be any, at least by my hasty search. Some people have found them for around 50-75 at pep boys and the likes.
http://www.parksoffroad.com/prodreview/inflatortest/superflowviaircomparison/superflowviaircomparison.htm I got mine on ebay for ~35 a piece shipped, no joke. They were so cheap i bought multiple so I could build an on board air system with 2 or 3 of them for redundancy. They have more than lived up to my expectations, and really seem to perform as well as some others that cost 10x more. -Brent

The bumper was built as a tank by bulletproof engineering as a tank and I never really run it much above 150 psi and the whole system does have a pop off valve; also the air comes in thru the top and comes out thru the top o the other side plus I have a drain **** on the bottom of the bumper. As for reliability its been on there for almost a decade with no problems and some oil does slip by the oil filter and maybe it coats the inside but never makes it out
of the air line. Also it's convenient for me. |

I run a cheapo Superflow MV50. Works awesome, no tank. Takes about 3 minutes/tire to go from 8 to 28 psi, on 31's.
I want to add a 2 gallon tank to it though. Cost me $140 or so CDN.

and using an air/water seperator (like you should on any air tank) will prevent most humidity from entering your tank.

A bumper is a great place to put an air tank. It doesn't need to be coated on the inside, especially if you've got an oiler or dryer setup on the pump. It should have a blow off valve and a pressure limit valve with a max between 125-175psi. The yeild strength of mild steel is 75,000 psi. Only time it would possibly become damaged would be in a BAD accident with a semi truck, and it wouldn't 'explode' with shrapnel everywhere, it would rupture on along a stress fracture and all the air would exit in a fraction of second, making quite a lot of noise, but no catastrophic destruction.

Just as an alternative -
I almost put onboard air in, but found a twin cylinder compressor that works real well. My aired down 33" swampers usually take less than two minutes to re-inflate. $170 : http://www.jcwhitney.com/autoparts/Product/Pr-p_Product.CATENTRY_ID:2012885/c-10101/Nty-1/p-2012885/Ntx-mode+matchallpartial/N-10101/tf-Browse/s-10101/Ntk-AllTextSearchGroup?Ntt=air+compressor Steve
