what was your first jeep?

Hey everyone, I was just wondering what all of your guys' first jeeps were? How many miles? What you Paid(if you want)? Were they stock? Stuff like that.

I am in the market for my first jeep, so I was just wondering how all of you got started.

My first was a brand new 87 YJ. White, white wheels, grey stripe, 5spd. 4.0, and leaky snaps on the half doors. Saw it in the showroom and fell in love! I was 27 then.

Well, I see you have been infected!

Once bitten, there's no cure. Even if you haven't bought yours yet, it's too late.

I got my 1990 4.2L YJ for $2500.00 about 5 years ago. It was stock & needed a lot of work.

In retrospect, I got the exact year i wanted without even knowing it.

It's the last year for a carburetor on a 6 cylinder wrangler. It has the AX-15 transmission which is stronger & better than the BA-10 that came in earlier YJ's up until mid 1989.

It has the most refinements up until that point, and the kid crusher roll bar I love so much.

Cant remember what the mileage was, but it wasn't low. I needed a new clutch after the first two years.

Once you get yours, keep coming back here for advice.

My advice to you right now, get yourself some tools & learn how to use them. You'll be better off building it, than buying it already built. You'll have a kind of pride you may not have felt yet.

94 Grand Cherokee Loredo, 212k, $2,200 totalled it on black ice 10 days later, I litterly BUMPED a wall, but it his the back 1/4 pannel and knocked off the plastic, put the plastic back on and never could tell is was wrecked, insurance gave me $3800 for it, I bought it back for $1400, then sold it a week later for $1900 I made some money on that one, but my insurance went though the roof (275/mo) luckily I left for the military and it was down by the time I got back lol

i recently bought my first jeep (1 month ago) and i love it. i first had a mercedes clk. the maintenance on the damn thing cost to much so i decided to go the adventurous way and bought me an 2004 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. the LJ was perfect for me it had 8500 miles on it.. yes that is 8500 miles. i paid 16k cash. it had the lift, mt 33x12.50 wheels on it with black mountain rims, ramsey rep 8000 winch, tube bumpers on all four sides. no hardtop just the softop. it also had the mopar rb1 navi system with lifetime siruis satelite preinstalled in it. so i got a huge deal. i was very lucky. i spent all summer looking for a jeep and came out with gold. all i had to put on it were handlebars, neoprene seat covers, and mirror relocation brackets.

1987 XJ. 4.0, 5 speed Pioneer trim. Baby blue. $17,100 out the door. First of many (5 XJs, 1 YJ, 2 CJ8s, 1 CJ7, 1 SJ, 1 Willys Utility Wagon, 3 ZJs...so far). Current fleet is limited to 6. Could really use a J-Truck, a Comanche, a Commando and an FC. Oh well.

You never forget your first. It was a 1980 CJ7 Renegade. I bought it from an AMC Jeep dealer in 1982 for 6K. It had 44k when I bought it and 158k when I sold it 6 years later for 2300. I added a push bar and a bug off screen along with 31" tires on the original white wagon wheels. It was a 6 cylinder with an automatic trans. I love to take a drive in one like it today now that I have a JK.

Current jeep was my first, it was almost stock though. Paid 13K. The first jeep I was in was a 86 Jeep Wagoneer Limited (Cherokee with a V8), my dad owned from new to 200K then he sold it to a friend in the early 90s and he drove to 350K original drive train. My best friend's family has owned 10-15, 84-91 Wagoneers FSJ over the 10 years I have known him. The usually drive there jeeps to 400K+, and work them really hard, but they go through a lot of stuff, most people wouldn't take there trucks through.

My first jeep is my current one only being in the Jeep Family for a couple of months. I read up a little bit but was really shopping for a price point so I got into an unmolested stocker with 169K for $3800. Not a great deal but a fair price and it was equipped like a wanted. Only regret is not holding out for RED!.

Good luck and welcome to the forum

The one I have now. Had I known that I would have had so much fun with a vehicle, I'd have bought a Jeep years ago.

my first jeep is my first car and at 17, it's the best thing that i've ever had, i worked as much as i could since 14 and bought it for $4000 with a little help from my parents, lucky for me they wanted a jeep too so they drive it some. it's stock for now but the po had 2 sets of 30" BFG A/T's and they are amazing on the trail and hopefully in the snow soon. if you're even thinking about getting a jeep, get one, mine's 14 years old and broke 101k on the way home from buying it. but when you do, check the frame and everywhere else for rust, i really hope mine's just surface but it can be a problem

1975 CJ5, got it cheap from a friend of a friend. Turned out to be a rust bucket and stuff started breaking faster than I could fix it, and even though I had to get rid of it, I was hooked. Two years later, I bought a 2006 LJ and love every minute in it.
