whoever said the Truetrac goes for $200 was way off, $420 is more is more realistic. A lunchbox locker can go for $200, but not an Eaton (Detroit) Truetrac.

I’ve a 2001 Grand Cherokee WJ Quadra Trac II auto box with open diffs front and rear. There isn’t a 2wd or 4wd select. Ive only got full time 4wd or low4wd,
In normal hi mode the rear axle is driven if there is speed difference between axles the front axle is auto engaged. On wet road at speed this is a good thing as it maintains traction on the road but if I fitted an auto locker like the Spartan or Aussie locker it would engage and having a locked diff on frond wheels while in a bend concerns to me.
In Low mode both axles are linked together so locked diffs is ideal and not a problem or concern. This points in the direction of Detroit Truetrac or ARB air locker. I was thinking about fitting to rear axle (dana 35) with LSD and maybe later LSD in front.
Have I got the right take on this or have I missed something ?

Manual lockers: I have a dana 44 with an ox locker. I've found you don't want this engaged on the pavement AT ALL. Once your on dirt you can have It engaged all the time if you want. I say this because the dirt or gravel will allow the axles to slip a bit when cornering. On paved roads this would be a violent hoping motion.

How are the manual lockers locked in? Linkage or a switch? Are there any mods to the rear to accommodate?

Say, in regards to many of the newer JK owners, the most modern JK has an outstanding BLD, ESP, Dana 44 rear and some (most Saharas) come with TracLok. Your OP was written before the new JK came out. If I could just add a few things so newer jeepers just don't run out & buy a new locker which may be unneeded.

After just completing the Naches Trail run, you'd be surprised at how capable, flexy, and downright awesome the most modern JK is. Granted, I'm old enough to remember having to go outside and "flip" the hubs to get them locked, i wholeheartedly appreciate fully locked rigs but...

Before this last 5 day adventure tour, I was certain I was going to add ARB air lockers to the Four door JK Jeep. Nope, again I was thoroughly impressed at how well these three components work together (all JKs have a D44 rear):
1. Traclok
2. ESP
3. BLD

Plus, adding front sway bar disconnects will keep the front two tires on the ground, where they belong even in the most funky off-camber pucker inducing event.

I will not be adding air lockers to the JK after all.
At the end of every day, all the old-timers in their flat fenders and even many of the youngster in their TJs would come over and look at the JKs and say how impressed they were & how they were certain the new JK could never keep up etc... Once they get towed out by a "mini-van" their tune changes a bit!

Mine is the one not stuck driving in the back ground. aussie lockers front at rear 34x9.50 swampers. That mud is very deep!
