What kind of modifications should I get?

I have a 2000 xj 2wd :/ I can't get a 4wd because my parents bought it for me and it is in great condition hasn't been torn up offroading etc. It's also my daily and only vehicle. Now to the question I'm new to offroading and I was wondering what I should get to get better performance on trails. Here's my wish list so far.... Brush guard, fog lights, AT tires/ bigger tires, lockers, 2-3 inch lift, winch. Please tell me what y'all think I should get and shouldn't get. P.S I work as a busser so modifications will come when I get the money.

Join a 4x4 club. Learn how to safely travel on 4x4 trails. Learn what a stock Jeep can do. Learn what equipment you need and what you might not need. Some modifications are just bling and other modifications actually help the off-road performance and/or safety.

Read any threads in the Cherokee section of the Forum that either look interesting or that cover topics you want to learn about. ALL the threads and postings are there from the very first day.

Thank you, I went to a few trails that weren't on Eglin AFB reservation where all the good stuff is but you need a pass which I'll get soon. My brother used to offroad and I went with him. I know alot of the things I can/ cannot do in a 2wd but yeah I may join one.

Save up $1500 or so and buy a 4x4 XJ. Keep your current one as a daily driver and then you have a dedicated off-road rig that you paid for and your parents can't tell you what to do with. Plus, you won't have to worry about breaking, crashing, or rolling your DD on the trail.

I'm really not wanting to have 2 vehicles I pay for gas and insurance and I won't be able to afford both. I'm also not going to do hardcore trails

Well, you only drive one at a time, so your gas consumption wouldn't go up. Also, second vehicles are usually much cheaper to insure. It might be something worth looking into at least. You're just not going to get real far with your 1WD Jeep.

Yeah I realize what you're saying I'll talk to my parents about it.

dont put money into a 2wd xj........ please. sell it and get a 4x4. since its in good condition maybe you can get what you want for it. ya never know. list it on craigslist and see if someone bites

If I were to put any money into a 2wd vehicle that would see some off-highway use, it would be some sort of limited slip or lunchbox locker (so I actually have more than 1 drive tire), and really good tires.

Then, maybe a front hitch with a receiver mount winch (as if I seriously wheeled a 2wd Jeep, I'd need it a lot! :D )

I am not sure how much I would consider a lift or larger tires, as the ground clearance would probably not afford me too much advantage since I only have 2wd.
