In the model 9500 Ti for instance, the "9500" is the rating of the winch. On it's first cable layer or winding on the winch drum it is rated to pull 9,500 lb. The "Ti" is the specific model in that rating. Warn now has a few different series of winches and the prefixes and suffixes will give you a clue as to where the winch falls in the corporate line-up.
Warn has their product line broken down into the following categories: Ultimate Performance Series Warn's latest generation of winch line with upgraded seals, a new generation of Bosch motors, better electronics, continuous duty cycles, etc. These include the xp, Ti, and si. Ti = Thermometric Integrated solenoid. The winch provides feedback to tell you it's temperature. A handy feature if really heavy continuous use. Xp = Not too sure, but it's the model I have Basically, it's their "base model" for their Ultimate Performance series. As such the control pack is a non-integrated unit that can be mounted where you want. Unlike the Ti, this provides no thermal feedback. Si M.O.S.F.E.T. = Advanced Badass Winch Actually, the Metal-Oxide-Semiconductor Field-Effect-Transistor does away with the typical electro-mechanical solenoid control pack. I'm not 100% sure of the benefits but it looks like a more reliable, advanced control system better able to withstand extreme temperatures. Hopefully, others can shine a light on this subject. Heavyweight Series The big-mutha's of winches. These are rated 12,000 - 16,5000 lb. and appear to be a mixed series of new and old generation of winches. The line has the suffix Ti and prefix M. M = Previous generation of winch, general prefix Th prefix is generally used with the previous generation of Warn winches. While still sturdy and durable the next generation is now superceeding them. Premium Series The premium winch series was the old stand-by. Favorites such as the M8000 or M8274. This was it up until a couple years ago where the new Ultimate Series took over. Good deals can be had on some of these winches and they are every bit as durable and dependable as any Warn. Some, such as the 8274, are still very very desirable for many off-roaders. This series contains M and XD prefix as well as an "i" suffix. XD = Seems to be the 9000 lb. designator This prefix is found on the 9000 lb. premium winches (DX9000). M = Older Designation for 8000lb. and lower Found on 8000 lb. or lower rated winches such as the M8000, M8274, or M6000 SDP. i = Suffix indicating an integrated solenoid This is found at the end of the winch model name and indicates whether or not the winch has an integrated solenoid. Such as the XD9000i.
