Viper Elite Winch Install w/ A to Z winch plate

I installed my Viper Elite 8000 winch and my AtoZ fabrications winch plate today.

Winch and accessories:

Winch plate:

As you can tell this is going on my stock bumper.

I sprayed the bolts with PB Blast last night. The torx bolts were a bear and required the breaker bar.

Finally got the three out on both sides that I needed to:

I bolted the winch on to the plate only to remember that I needed to put on the fairlead first. Took the winch back off and put the fairlead on. The fairlead needed to be mounted with the bolts going back to front. This is beacuse there is such a tight clearance between the bolts and the winch. It was tricky getting it tight as most tools did not want to fit in the fairlead's wholes to hold the nut. Needle nose vise grips worked will enough to get the job done.

Lifted the winch and plate onto the bumper and bolted it down. It is a very tight fit. It actually touches my grill in one spot:

The problem there is that it will not allow the cover to go on. I might loosen the bumper bolts enough to get the cover on. I could still lift the cover off the top and front to use the bumper plus it would protect my grill.

Two minor problems I ran into:
The clevis hook did not want to fit over the end of the winch cable. A hammer fixed that:

The winch plate starts to slope up to close to the mounting wholes. When I put the tow hooks back on they did not sit flat:

Electric was easy to hook up (no photos there yet).

Turned her on and away she went.

It comes with both a wired and wireless remote which is nice.

Here is the info on the winch: Moto Alliance - MotoAlliance VIPER ATV Accessories

The winch plate: Jeep® '87-'06 TJ/YJ Wrangler Winch Mount :: Winch & Recovery :: AtoZ Fabrication

Both offer jeep forum discounts if you call and ask.

Looks good. Flip flop your hooks side to side and they'll sit flat.

That is a nice winch and it comes with a snatch block and synthentic line. How much was it with the JF discount?

EDIT: Green line even - my Jeep is the same color

Get rid of these:

And get these:

Twelve bucks a piece, they stick out longer and will sit flusher with your winchplate.

Either get the new hooks as recommended or swap the current ones left to right. You may have to move your lights outboard some to clear them, I know I did. The way the bolts are installed right now is loading up one side of the head and the shank. There is a chance they will fail when using the winch. I like how the winch looks though. Have never seen a Viper.

I believe their standard discount is 5%. I got in on the sale they had at the beginning of the month till 4/15 which was $100 off and a free recovery pack.
Here is their thread w/ more info: http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f43/v...otion-1003881/

I like the other hooks idea and will be getting some.

Looks great GT STICKY! Yes, we went with a "mega hook" from OK OFFROAD (they are one of our strong partners in this) to get enough space to handle that 3/8" AMSTEEL-BLUE line....it's still tight, but the eyelet can be compressed a bit.

We've had great response thus far on the winch. We ended our promotion after the giveaway at the beginning of the month, but a bit more info:

1. We still have (2) EX12000 at discounted prices that are open box. They are new and complete except for the snatch block. But I believe we just received our new shipment of snatch blocks as well. PM me if you are interested in one of them.

2. Standard Jeep Forum members do get the standard 5% off. Jeep Forum premium members get 5% off all our products, but are now going to get 10% off ELITE winches. This has been a great board to work with, and we believe once the word-of-mouth spreads on the ELITE, that they will take off. You all are critical to that so we want to help you out too....so this is the only place on the web where you can get a 10% discount. PM me if you are interested as well. We don't want to publicly advertise the promo code for non-premium members or guests.

Thanks everyone.

I made a little tweak that worked out well. The third bolt for the winch plate (the one in the back which is used on the sway bar bracket), sits lower than the two on the bumper. I added some washers to fill the gap and that actually keeps the winch off the grill and lets the cover go on.

Well I got to use it for the first time this weekend. We went up to Rousch Creek for a day on the rails. About an hour into the ride the lead driver slid down into a nasty water hole and laid his jeep down. He had a winch that he used to pull out while mine was used to put pressure on the side to keep her off her side. Worked great. I used it a second time when I was resting nicely on a rock with my belly. It pulled me off quick and easy. 2 saves. Worked great. I will try to get some pics up if my buddy ever downloads them.

Great feedback. Thanks!

We have a powerports rep who took our winches to some police/fire departments in Texas. Very impressed was the feedback I heard today....sounds like we are going to start getting them into police and fire vehicles this year. That will provide good credibility for the "untested" product. You guys all still get 10% discounts if you are a jeep premium member. Thanks!
