video camera dash mount

i really want to make a dash mount for my video camera because it is impossible to hold a camera when im wheeling.

i have an idea for it, i was going to take a tri pod and replace the legs with little remote control car shocks and then mount that on some kind of base that i can attach to my dash.

i just wanted to see if anyone else had idea for this befor i start

Bob

This is what I did. I bought an arm for my rollbar/cage from Rockhard. www.rockhard4x4parts.com/accessories-bracket.html

It has five threaded holes in the end. I purchased a few threaded balls from RAM mounts. An arm with a video camera mount is then mounted to one of the balls and clamped down. Below is a picture of how I mounted my GPS, but the same thing is done for a video camera only the arm stands vertical.

If you don't have a crossbar, you can easily mount it to a dash or most any surface with their wide variety of bases. http://www.expressmounts.com/

I just made a mount for a video camera the other day. I used a ball head mount. I took off the center console and drilled a hole right in the center of the tray. Used a 3/8 bolt and screwed the ball head on the other side and remounted the console. It works great. and put a bolt through the tray in the center and then screwed the tripod head onto that. It works Great.

This is good and it's cheap...

It's made by PanaVise.

It's like $26 on Amazon. Amazon.com: Panavise 809 Camera Window Suction Cup Mount: Camera & Photo

Hey CopperCJ7..... I like the way your gauges are setting. It looks very nice. What all gauges are on there?

I just picked up the Panavise one. I have not used it yet but is seems to be well built.

I have also used my Gorillapod wrapped around my cage, worked OK.

suction cup mounts can be pretty darn strong. At first glance you might not think them strong enough, but most of the ones I've seen and used have been quite strong both on glass and body panels.
