Trying to determine year and type of wrangler...

Hey all,
Normally crawl the CJ section, but a while back saw this Jeep in back of a closed "Mr. Tire" and today decided to stop by...it doesnt look like its in bad shape (my CJ was far worse!) but not sure of year or type - is it a TJ? What year possibly? Just fishing right now, have a number for the land owner, may just give him a call to see what the status on this jeep is....

great question......assuming your talking about the wasted opportunity parked out in the back of a closed garage? I saw it a few months ago so its been sitting awhile. Has pretty new rubber with new d rims. Worst thing I noticed besides the taped-up rip in the drivers window was that it hasn't been inspected since 09. The tags/registration is good until 2/13 so that at least has been kept up...

Not sure about the strange fading pattern with the front clip, but something is odd about that to me.

If I had to guess, I would guess an early, either 97 or 98 TJ.

I know, weird pattern... going to stop by today and pop the hood to see if its the 4.0 or 4 cyl...and to see if there's any frame damage which might explain the different colors....

My guess would be a 1997 - 1998 Jeep TJ with a blown 2.5L engine.

If you can get that close, take a pic of the dash and vin. They're lots of free vin decoders online.

Stopped by today and got the VIN, did a search online, comes up with

some pics of the engine...

and the shape of the tires - they all look like this spare (nice shape, no dry rot)

I have a couple of ways to proceed from here to find out who the owner is...wondering if this is going to be worth my time

If you find the owner and they say they want 8 grand for it, it wasn't worth your time.

If you find the owner and they want 1 grand for it, then it was.

Only one way to find out...
