TJ tailgate need a answer fast

Just need to know if a tailgate from 98 tj will fit a 2004 rubicon???? Found one for on the cheap!!!! Wont do me any good if it wont fit... Thanks

Probably...they are both TJ's...if it's cheap enough, throw the dice and buy it.

I would say yes, they are the same, should not have any issues, I know for a fact that the hinges are interchangable.

The difference is that the 98 tailgate doesnt have vents, the 04 does. The vents were moved from the hardtop in the 98 to the tailgate in 04. So if you run an 04 (no vent) hardtop with a no-vent tailgate you will just notice a little more pressure difference when you shut your door ect.

Hey if anybody is concered. The tailgate did work fine, with a little boring on the lock hole, i was even able to keep my back door lock. One thing i did notice, they used all metal in 98 and my04 had alot of plastic. Guess metal is to expensive now.
