Like you I own many Beretta's and while not a fan of Taurus's autos their revolvers are very nicely made, I have two, one in .357 Mag, and the other is the above mentioned Judge "Public Defender". I also have a have a 500A for a HD Shotgun. But the Judge would make a great snake gun, easier to carry than a full size shotgun, and there are also some very good 45LC +P rounds equivalent to a 44mag for bear country. I would not a shoot +P regularly out of a Judge as there were not designed for them, but for a once in while they should be fine. For a bear gun/snake gun it would be a good option. My Taurus's are 100% reliable.

Exactly! For self protection the Judge is absolutely deadly and pin point accuracy with Buckshot or #4 Turkey loads is not needed since the shot spreads several times faster than a typical shotgun. Both of the above are DRT (dead right there) loads. We all would like to think we would be pinpoint shooters in a panic situation but that rarely is the case! Plus you can't rule out the fact that your significant other may be the one that has to do the shot. For snakes any of the shotgun loads (birdshot) will dispense with them and for protection you can load a combination of the hot 45LC and shotgun loads. As the above post indicated the stopping power of the self protection 45LC is right with the venerable 44 Mag plus you have the rugged reliability of a revolver as well.

I pretty sure it 50 state legal unless your state passed those stupid serial number stamping laws. For some reason Kalifornistan wants to make all firearms illegal in round about ways. I guess there is a reason the violent crime rate is 15% higher than the rest of the nation, less firearms in law abiding citizens hands. But to answer your question it should be it's not considered a shotgun because the barrel is rifled as all pistols have to be. It was designed to be a .45LC gun, but it also happens to shoot shot shells. The Federal 2 1/2" OOO buck loads for the judge, are devastating at close range on two legged targets. Federal also makes a #4 shot for the judge. And Taraus is the only one that makes a gun like this, why are you so set on S&W and Ruger? I'm not a huge fan of Taraus either, but they do make great wheel guns.

Not to hijack the gun thread but I never ever leave home without my Gerber multiplier tool. Bet I use that thing every day and have pulled off a few dandy field repairs with it too. You also forgot bailing wire and duct tape from your list. How could you.........

And as for the gun thread I prefer a S&W .40 loaded with hydrashocks. 16 reasons I feel safer when out and about.

I have a NATO survival pack with basic goodies in it.. I toss it in whatever vehicle I am heading out in.. Has an MSR stove, fuel, freeze dried and MRE's, utensils, etc etc.. I also usually carry my trusty 222 REM... As far as other stuff I have a lot of stuff stashed in the Jeep all the time. Tools, hose clamps, fuel line, tie wire, zip ties, lug nuts, simple siphon, etc etc... In the rear of the Jeep is a plastic packer box full of stuff, like jackets, straps, propane torch, bolt cutters, first aid kit, etc etc.. Under the pasenger seat is alo a bunch of stuff, like tire chains, a few chokers, more tools, etc etc... Under the driver seat is a large mag lite mounted in a mag lite holder.. And finally 2-3 rolls of TP...

Fishinjeeper - I would just put a call into your local gun shop and ask them if they stock them. Can't see why it would not be legal out there. The newest ones will shoot both the 2 1/2" and 3" shot shells (longer chamber). When this gun came out I immediately thought of the Jeep and where we go with it. Good thread by the way, I have picked up quite a few items that are now added to my list. Storage is so limited in the Jeep that I have to pick and choose what I take hunting with me.

god i wish i could get one. went to antioch armory. it is NOT california legal. california law looks at any pistol that can shoot shotgun shells as a sawed off shot gun. so no judge for me

Check your PM's.. There are several that will do the job on the surplus sites..

Here's a link to a place that has the one I have.. http://www.flyingtigerssurplus.com/catalog.php?c=6&p=61&id=6&next=3

It is the NATO style ruck sack item # FX4225. This ones a replica, but should work fine..

Time to move there is a reason I don't live there anymore to many anti-gun fanatics, and I like guns. I will never spend another dime in that communist state, The People"s Republic of Kalifornistan or PRK for short. MN is fairly restrictive too(lots of anti-gun people here too), but way better then CA.
