survival/jeep/camping gear

so a earlier thread made me think. my jeep is set up for expedations and wilderness camping. as an eagle scout i have always had a love for nature and the mountains. backpacking and all the camping i do is not at camp grounds, i find good places away from everything. i practice leave no trace and tread lightly. with all that, you always have to be prepaired. for whatever comes your way.

so i always carry things that i might need and always carry my 10 essentals. here is a list of the basic things i always carry in my jeep.
(boy scout 10 essentals)
-map and compass (liquid filled)
-flashlight
-emergency food
-water
-knife
-rope
-fire starter
-first aid kit
-jacket
-candle

i also carry
-emergency fishing kit
-survival guide (for those situations where you need an idea)
-first aid guide (for those situations where you cant remember what to do)
-water filter and iodine tablets
-a firearm for protection

for the jeep
-tow strap
-d rings
-oil
-shovel
-axe
-gas
-water
-flares
-full tool kit
-tarp

basic camping gear
-3 pots
-small weber
-tent
-2 sleeping bags
-small air matress
-single burner propane stove
-one oil lantern
-one fork/knife/spoon
-paper plates/bowls
-paper towls
-TP
-clothes adequate for the season

thats about it. i try to pack light and useful. what do you guys take when you go and what kind of camping do you do? dry camping? wilderness? camp ground? whats your favorite camping terrain?

what exactly do you carry in your jeep for camping?

heres how it looks all packed up.

One thing I see you're missing is a full change of clothes adequate to the season.

I also bring a snake hook &/or tongs, and Audubon field guides.

That's a nice simple list. It can be easy to go overboard. Only thing I would add is sunscreen.

Snake tongs - used for moving venomous reptiles, not eating.

I always bring a hat, my dad taught me when I was young to tuck some fishing line and a single hook in the inside brim of the hat just in case you ever found yourself outdoors in a less than desireable situation.

funny story I almost lost my fishing pole one day when I tripped and my pole ended up way down below me off the side of the hill. my emergency line and hook were just long enough to hook one of the eyelets on the pole and bring it back up Not that it was an expensive pole but it's one of the very few things I inherited from my grandpa when he passed away, so not expensive $$$ wise but irreplaceable to me

side note, that pic is absolutely beautiful, where is it?

Good list. I also pack the jeep like I used to pack the backpack (don’t do that much anymore). One thing I see missing is a whistle (or two). I keep them in a fanny pack with the other “10 essential” stuff. A small camera and binoculars are also in that fanny pack (not emergency stuff, but always there).

Probably obvious and not necessarily to list, but cell phone and CB are essential for emergency communication.

How you chose to carry stuff in personal preference, but I do almost anything to avoid putting weight up high. I take out the back seat and load stuff there when taking a multi-day remote camping trip.

i put everything in the small action packers (2) and a water proof duffle bag. keep it dry if it rains and dont have to worry about it falling through the bars up top. all my ten essentials i put in a camel pack with a 3 litre blatter i only use if its an emergency. i have a cb and am also looking into getting a ham radio for those long distance communications.

my compass has a signaling mirror also. and i completely forgot about a whistle.

usually when i go camping for a few days. i pick one spot and make that the camp site. take everything off the rack and just carry my backpack with the essentials.

A revolver with some home made snake load is hard to beat.

I keep my camping gear in my Jeep whenever I go on long trips and it has everything already listed and more. I mostly make sure I have Jeep related stuff when I go into the boonies because more often than not, I've tended to have more Heep issues than issues with me breaking.

But, ya never know.

I can't kill a snake unless it's for survival. Even then I'd rather eat a bird or something warm-blooded.

That's an excelent list, and almost mirrors what I have in mine at all times now as well. Plus I always have the afore mentioned binoculars, and camera, and I throw the gun in before heading out. The one thing I noticed missing from your jeep list that I carry is an air compressor.

This should start a debate!.......an excellent pistol choice here is the Taurus Judge. It is a 45 long Colt/410 Shotgun shell, available in several barrel lengths and two chamber lengths for up to 3" Magnum 410 shells. A couple of new loads have just hit the market for these guns that are quite powerful and effective! Take a look at the video.
