this is a excerpt of the law rather than the complete code. It is also a few years old. We need to find the Current New York Laws (code) from a NY Legislative page, any more ideas, i have had some problems getting NY pinned down.

Here's a link for the current NY laws: http://public.leginfo.state.ny.us/menuf.cgi
Once there, at the bottom select Laws of New York, and then scroll down the list of Consolidated Laws to VAT which is Vehicle and Traffic.

ok added New Mexico, i did not use your link because it is a third party site, an although it looks like a nice site and a complete copy, i have restricted this thread to official state sites for some assurance of quality and currentness (if that is a word)
I did however get spurred to find the link from the government site finally, it also takes you too something that looks third party, but i think it is just who runs the lexis site for them, and if it links off their main Legislative page , that is good for me. I never include specific info on what the laws say, like the heights you mention, you can read in my first post my reasoning. Oh btw i read the tire section and studs are legal, just a example on how slippery a slop you get into when paraphrasing any of this. Thanks for the input, really helpful for folks to chime in.

Why do what others have done for you? Although there is other information beyond lifts that may keep you legal.

because they did not do it, not what i am doing. If you had maybe read a bit more about what we are working on and why you wouldn't have had to ask. These super quick "summaries" of the laws that matter so much to us are a the least lacking in vital info and context and at worst, they are often just plain wrong, either because they are outdated, misread or not taking in account all the factors. Bottom line they are not particularly good to trust. And you certainly cant quote them in court and expect them to save you. most states cant possibly be summed up in a short paragraph. and like you eluded to, what if you want to know about taillights your working on, or fenders you want to buy? Bottom line what you found is dangerously lacking, and just the kinda site that prompted my to work so hard on this thread. PS why don't you help out and help get Florida for us?

no need to apologies, sorry if i was a bit short, but you are something like the 5th person in 5 pages to ask the same question, and i guess i thought that my goal spoke for itself. I apologies a bit , for typing while hungry, it makes me snippy.
Thanks for helping out, i have this link but have been swamped and have not had time to find exactly what section to pint to or scan what it says for helpful stuff, so here is a place to start

Still researching Florida, seems pretty wide open with in reason
This is what I found for Florida coincidentally from the same link you posted (I contacted FHP and they referred me there), still doing some looking though. There was nothing on tire coverage or lifts. Seem to be more concerned with lighting. Bumper height was the only thing related to vehicle height.
http://www.leg.state.fl.us/statutes/index.cfm 316 seems to cover all the vehicle restrictions and then some 316.221 Taillamps.-- 316.233 Spot lamps and auxiliary lamps.-- 316.2396 Number of driving lamps required or permitted.-- 316.251 Maximum bumper heights.--

maddog,
Thanks! thanks for find the info, a link and a few notes will do take a cue from what i do in the main post. is find what areas have the info we need and see the closest place in the site i can link to without causing confusion, i then make reference to what that area is titled and anything of major note i have read. but i let all the reading up to the person wanting to learn. the beauty of the internet is that link stay current long after the info can change. every few months i look over all the links i post and make sure they stay good
