Does this winch's remote connector have 3 prongs (where the remote cord connects to the box)? The reason i asked is cuz you can test the remote to see if it's working with a pair of pliars. That'll rule out the remote as the culprit. If it does, i'll PM you with a trick to test the remote. I don't want to expose it on the forum because there are some DUM$ people out there that go around screwing with winches on other people's rigs.

Neither make their own electric winches, both buy from the same Chinese manufacturer. MM only makes their own hydraulic winches.

In cab winch controls

Are you going to hard wire a winch contol inside the cab? I looked at the black magic box and was wondering if you know how you would go about wiring it.

I just bought one of these winches but I have not got it yet. I want to have a in cab winch controls. It looks like a three wire but with out having it in hand I can't check what wire is what.

I've been following this thread and am considering buying this winch. Is that the Harbor Freight plate on your Jeep? If not, does anyone out there have pix of the HF plate? I'm interested in how easy / hard it mounts and if it's worth getting.

BTW, very nice Jeep and a nice job of installing your winch! Thx everyone for the thread and your input, it's helping me in my buying decision.

I'm considering buying this winch, but I don't really want to pay $100 for a mounting plate. Do you think the harbor freight $30 winch plate would work? It says its universal.

i relocated the winch's plug from the control box that was designed to be mounted to the winch to my dash beside my CB.... fyi, control box (solenoid) was moved under the hood in front of the battery tray....

and yes... it's a simple 3 wire plug/switch... it would be pretty effortless to simply install a 3 way switch in the dash if you wanted.... 12 volt guy, as mentioned, ahas a nice setup as well.

and no winch plate... i mounted it to the bumper i made last spring when i bought my welder all i did was add a little metal here and there, and the fairlead mount...

im not sure wich winch plate. i have. it came with the jeep when i bought it. i could be a mile marker b/c the jeep has a M.M. sticker on the side. idk.

I also got my winch yesterday at the big 4 Wheel Parts truck show here. i went up to the smitybilt booth and told em i think my solenoids broken and could i have a new one. they pulled one out of a box and just gave it to me. i also grabed a remote just incase that was the problem. I had to have one of them walk me out though so i could get back out through security. they check everyones bag so you dont steal stuff. i tested the remote in the parkin lot and it worked. so they just took the solenoid back. So now i have a working winch. and a new solenoid is on the way from 4 wheel parts still. sry if that was a lil confusin.

well i tested it today. pulled my jeep outa 36" of THICK sticky nasty mud. the only prob i had was that it started pulling the jeep i was hooked to instead of pulling me outa the mud. worked nice though. a lil slow but not bad.

i'm going with the T-max myself. i trust the aussies with most of my offroad equiptment,as they have the experience. not sure about the fact that all the big names are having thier stuff made in China. all i know is they make cheap, crappy tools.listen to Jerry. he has shown me the light many times in the past.he is like the Dahli Lama of Jeepism.
