Here's a couple more pics I just took. This is how the solenoid is attached to the top rails on the generation 2 - XRC-8

Just mount the box underhood - much better.

Do you have any pics of the solenoid mounted under your hood and how you routed your wires?

Ummm, 2 weeks later, I got an email from Smittybilt. There was supposed to be "Solenoid Mounting Supplement" sent with the winch. So he sent it to me in an email in .pdf format with pictures. It all makes sense now. Anyone who wants the supplement should send me an email to CopperCJ7@aol.com and I will shoot it out to you. Please add the winch to the email's title so I don't just toss it out.

Smittybilt Supplement

I'm sorry to all those who've written me for the suppllement. Smittybilt sent it to me as a HUGE Word file in "READ ONLY" format so I can't convert it a .pdf file.

Why not just write to the guy at Smittybilt and get him to send it directly...

I got one of these Smitty's a few weeks ago after wheeling, getting stuck and relying on someone else to get me out. I did not like that! I got mine for 299.99 from 4wheel parts and the MM winch plate. I haven't had the opportunity to really give it a try but it sure does looks good on the Jeep. I also mounted the box on the rails, looks better there to me.

OKAY ITS A POS!

Yesterday I slid off a trail into a tree. Smashed my fender, hood, and cosmetic damage to the windshield frame and hardtop. Yey for my new insurance rate The point is though that I didn't even touch the bumper and the 5 mph impact was enough to disable the solenoid. The plug in the box actually was knocked loose and when I plugged in the remote I heard a click and then nothing. My hood was pinned under a branch so I had to cut the power/ground cables at the solenoid and use them directly on the motor, with showers of sparks trying to make good contacts. It was not fun.

As soon as I get a solenoid box I'm without a doubt trading it for a Warn.
