Looks like winchdepot's price is now $299, has anybody found the $285 price for the winch lately?

Also, to woodsman58, did you have to get a separate winch plate to mount the winch to your Smittybilt bumper? How do you like the bumper?

It was listed at $284.95 everywhere on the site for me when I bought it, but when I would add to cart it would be $299. I just bought it, called them and told them and winchdepot took care of me.

Good to know, thanks. Any problems with the winch or winchdepot so far?

BTW, nice bumper fab.

I stopped by Harbor Freight today at lunch and got the uni-mount plate. I was shocked! It fit the jeep, and it fit the winch. OMG! The only thing I had to do was upsize the bolts holes on the front, and it fit right in.

And I'm not sure why people are saying it's slow, sure seemed fast to me. Mine has the 5.5 motor, and the reversed Free-Spin/Engaged sticker. I checked the battery leads, all were crimped nice and strong, none of them came loose.

I'm an electrical engineer, so just to do things "a better way" I soldered all the 4ga connectors. I have several soldering irons, but a radiator repair soldering iron always works best for me on 4ga.

Can someone explain where each of the wires from the control box (solenoid) actually go. I received my XRC8 Sans the installation manual. I know that the long red lead goes to power (battery). I then have a 3 "heavy" gauge leads (yellow, black, red) that are short with ring ends. Obviously 2 are for the motor. There is also a thin gauge wire as well. Any help is greatly appreciated.

All the winches i've hooked up had 4 wires. Red to positive, black to negative, and two other to the motor.

Short Red to top outside terminal on motor (red).
Short black cable with yellow jacket to the inside rear terminal on top of motor (yellow).
Short black cable with black jacket to inside front terminal on top of motor (black).

That's what I assumed, but with electrical I like to assume nothing since you only have one chance to do it right. (without causing damage that is). Thank you for your assistance Bob. Happy Wheelin'.

I have read this thread from beginning to end. I just bought one of the XRC8 Winches from 4wheelparts.com

I don't really like those guys...their attitude SUX, and I just sat on hold for over 25 minutes and STILL didn't get the info I wanted.

$299.00 and free UPS shipping was too good to pass up! I hope I get one of the new 5.5hp series wound motors, or I may send the thing back! Thanks for all the good info!!!
