Shock boots

So I just purchased the 3.5 Aev premium lift kit for my 09 jku and I'm fairly sure the billsteins on that lift come with shock boots. I could be wrong...but anyway, most guys I've seen around here don't run them. Some do.

I'm assuming he argument is that dirt and mud wont be getting in the seal of the shock. Do you run em? Would you recommend running em?

All in all, yes I will be doing a bit of offroading (1-2 times a week) but I really like the look without the boot.

Thoughts?

Run them without. I've never had a huge issue either way, but when I was running them with boots they did trap crap in them...it didn't cause them to rust out or anything but it was reason enough to remove them.

Don't run them. Dirt an mud will still get in with the boots on. The problem is once it's in, it cant get out.

Bilstein will void your warranty if you pull the boots off - this has been discussed in the WJ forum to the point of people calling Bilstein to ask.

My take on it is that Bilstein put them on for a reason. If they caused more warranty claims they wouldn't be on there. Kind of ignorant of me (because it's not based on data) but the logic seems sound.

I usually donít run boots on my shocks either; however, I had an issue with bilstein when my rear shocks started to leak on my í08 JKUR. Long story short they were giving me crap saying that since I didnít have boots on them that probably rocks were responsible for the failing shocks, bs.

This time around I have them installed so if the shocks fail again they canít blame it on me.

Just installed Bilstein 5100's this weekend, left the boots on. I figured if they came that way, they're probably supposed to stay on there for warranty reasons. Based on the above, I'm glad I did.
