Shifts but doesn't catch?

Hey all-
My 98 Wrangler started doing this weird thing on Sunday where my engine would rev really high and then catch after a little while whenever I shifted (with the clutch out). It usually only happens when shifting into 3rd or 4th gear. Along with that, my engine makes a weird pinging, or popping noise in 2nd or 3rd gear when i take my foot off of the gas.
I guess my car has some serious problems!
Thanks,
Conor
