Sanden OBA York OBA
OKay I am sold on OBA but now I am having difficulty deciding which route to take. I am trying to decide if it is really worth getting a york and doing all the modifications? For Sanden OBA all I need is the compressor, a new belt, and extra pulley but a little more complicated for the oil remover and oiler. For a York I am only finding 8 groove clutches. Can you just use the 8 groove with no problem even though the belt is not an 8 groove? So I really just want to know if the York is worth the extra money?

A sanden set up is actually ioncredibly easy. the best part is it will bolt right in with no brackets or other mods needed. just bolt the Sanden AC pump right to the factory mount, then bolt a new idler pulley in to the stock mount for that. then you just need a fan belt for your Jeep with AC. I got my Sanden OBA set up and going for just under $100

I have the sanden 709 compressor. Havent installed it yet, but spec wise it puts out 9cfm vs the York 210's 10cfm. Since it mounts in the factory location, as mentioned above, I decided to stick with the Sanden. Not sure if your 91 engine config is any different. IIRC, some 709's are self oiling like the Yorks.

TellyDSP how do you know which sd-709 is the one that holds the oil like a york? I found two sd-709's in a yard but neither of them pumped when i turned them by hand.

Yea I turned the middle part by hand and neither one of them did anything. I then found an sd-508 that pumps in an xj and took the mounting bracket too and thought i could make it work but was wrong. I would have to have the alternator sit low like an xj's to use that bracket. And i don't really want to do that.

No I have the 4.0 but i don't want my alternator sitting low like an xj's does. My alternator is under the a/c bracket but an xj's is considerably lower.

The XJ a/c pump has two bolts that bolt in horizontally and my YJ bracket has 4 vertical bolts for the a/c pump. But its all good now since I have a YJ a/c pump.

oh now i know why. the one you grabbed from the XJ was from a Renix engine, not the HO engine. the Renix XJs used a different mount than the HO XJs
