rusty frame
lookin at a 2002 jeep looks great except it is from up north. The frame has rust on it . Not sure about the body underneath. The exterrior is flawless. Can it be remedied or would it be better just to pass up this jeep. It is a pretty good deal unless major problems will likely result from salt exposure.

How much rust are you talking about here?
My jeep is 21 years old and has spent its entire life in Michigan and though the frame is scaled with rust it appeared to be structurally sound when I examined it on a lift at work last night. |

Depends if it's rust or rot...if it's rot, pass...

well I think that it is a real solvable problem, you might have to take a close look at joints to see if it has affected the structural intergrity that but i highly doubt it, it would really have to be a lot of salt to wear a frame that new to rust....probrably blast it, or wirebrush it, and just put on some roll on bed liner or paint it it if you are that concerned about it

Are there any places (like Maaco or local auto body shops) that offer rust treatment service for a problem like this? I mean, I would imagine that it's a pretty common concern...

nor sure. I am going to spray any rusted spots with phosphoric acid which is easier than brushing then cote with some kind of sealant. Supposedly the acid converts the rust to primer and seals against further damage. However it still needs to be sprayed with a sealer after. Ill let you know how it turns out
