Rocker guards
I've debating on getting rocker guards and which set to go with. I've always heard good things about a-z and Shrockworks. I've looking at the LoD ones, I've been really happy with my LoD rear bumper and wouldn't mind getting another product from them. My question is, it doesnt seem like the LoD's cover much under the jeep, how do they compare to other rocker guards or to a-z?

I think this qualifies as a technical question. You'll probably get more responses in the TJ technical section.
I'll be getting A to Z, hopefully before the end of the year. I've no experience with LoD.

Oh god, please leave this in here, the TJ section has enough rocker guard threads. I applaud the OP for actually using the sub-sections like they are meant to be.
Now, on topic...steer clear of LOD guards is you want protection compared to AtoZ and Shrockworks. Either of those two are highly regarded so you won't go wrong. The LOD are fine for some people, but I believe they are made from a thinner material and they do not offer nearly as much coverage underneath. With that said, I'd recommend talking with Zach from AtoZ, his reputation is great. He has put up with my questions several times and I have yet to order anything from him. But I promise I will send business his way sometime! Either way, if you are looking for a good rocker, flip a coin and go with AtoZ(heads) or Shrockworks(tails)! -Frank

Don't overlook the Rokmen rocker guards. Beefy and great fit and protection.

I cannot address other rocker guards.
Personally, I think the AtoZ from Zach are a top quality product. |

LOD, smaller attachment hardware, and fewer of them(4 on the sides, 3 on the bottom which are not countersunk, those will get busted off) not as much underneath coverage, no wheel well to wheel well coverage. Internal backing plates, or bracing??? ![]() A-Z bigger mouting hardware, and more on the sides (not sure about underneath) more coverage on the bottom, no wheel well to wheel well coverage, optional internal bracing? Shrockworks bigger mounting hardware, 6 on the sides, 6 on the bottom, no wheel well to wheel well coverage, internal bracing plates, but not tied into anything?? great coverage on the bottom. Rokmen - bigger mounting harware, more of it, full wheel well to wheel well coverage, TIG welded, backing plates and internal bracing optional, better spaced mounting hardware (look at the space under the "Jeep" on all rockers....) I don't think any of these are bad, but from a functional/technical standpoint it is my opinion that the ROKMEN product is superior. Of course if you don't like the way they look then it may not matter to you. I personally choose function over looks, but we are all different. I would call each manufacture of the rocker you are interested in and tell them you are shopping, tell them what products you are interested in and ask them why their product is better. |

I'd recommend A to Z. After doing an extensive search on rockers, that is where I ended up. They do go far under the body - about 7 inches if I had to guess, as well as the rockmen and shrockworks do.
The tipping point with the A to Z rockers was Zach's willingness to customize my rockers. At no extra charge I got square tubing as opposed to round tubes. He was also willing to give me diamond plated rockers (purely an aesthetic thing, but I'm an architect, so I'm picky about those things) for a minimal upcharge. I'd also add that their customer support is really good. That said, I was looking into a rear bumper by shrockworks, and there customer support was also very good. I would think you couldn't go wrong with any of the three mentioned. The LOD just doesn't have the same amount of coverage and I'd avoid it if I were you. It's not the manufacturer, it's the design.

The only thing that peeves me about all of those rocker guards is the number of holes you have to drill into the body. I'm much more inclined to go with frame mounted sliders from Detour for example. It's not so much a resale issue as it is damaging the integrity of the body itself. I'm obviously in the minority here as demonstrated by the popularity and proliferation of the body mounted product but I just had to get that off my chest
![]() Oh and on topic, the A to Z and Shrockworks products cover much farther under the tub than the LoD ones do. |
