Rear Lockouts
I am considering buying this 2001 Wrangler, but I am a little hesitant. Reason being it has alot of drivetrain mods. 4:88 gears, ARB airlockers, and lockouts on the REAR axle. 37inch tires and 6 inches of lift. My concern is it goes down the road a little squirrely. Also can't figure out why it has REAR lockouts. I turned them to the unlock position and the Jeep would only move with the front axle while in 4 wheel drive. The guy who has it knows nothing about the mods. Is this thing not road worthy because of the setup it has? I would like to drive it on the road as well as off-road. Any input will be appreciated.

the warn rear lockouts are a much stronger axle shaft than a standard d35 shaft.

My "cuz" got a Jeep used that was way to big for the road. Took a little lift out of it and traded the tires to someone who wanted to go bigger in tire size. Then he had a nice Jeep for a DD and on the trail.
Sounds like it has a lot of $ in the drive train, this could be good if you want to play. The lockouts in the rear is a "full floater" and should handle a lot. It may just need a better lift setup (long arm) or things are getting worn. (stearing joints, controal arm bushings, track bar joints, shocks, stearing stabilizer) TJ on 37s needs to be built correctly if driven on road. Ted

Yes they are full floaters so they would be stronger.
The biggest reason most people go with that set up is so they can flat tow it. When the hub is unlocked the driveshaft does not turn.
